Hi, I'm Katie; I'm an 18 year old art student currently studying at college on an Art and Design course. I'm going to University this September and doing Games Concept Design - I aspire to be a concept artist. I mostly use Photoshop and my Bamboo graphics tablet for my art, yet I enjoy drawing and painting traditionally too. Please feel free to leave any comments on how I can improve or just your general thoughts!

Camilla D'Errico
I discovered Camilla's D'Errico's work not too long ago; it was actually when I was Google-searching 'cute' images for my FMP. Her style of work - obviously inspired by manga, which is a huge love of mine - caught my eye at once, so I went on a small search to find the artist of such piece that I had found.
Some of her artwork is a little... strange. But the bright colours of her work is appealing - not to mention the detail that goes into it. She does most of her art in oil paints - a special kind of oil paint actually, called Holbien Aqua Duo Paint, 'Aqua' due to the fact that they're water soluble. For her colour pieces she uses wooden panels - however, some of her work is digital or done in ink and acrylic.
As I mentioned, strangeness is a common theme in her work. She includes mostly girls throughout her pieces - with the odd guy thrown in here and there - and they mostly have animal companions with them. What's most interesting is that the animals are never seperate from the main person in the piece - they're always combined in some way, whether that be an octopus perched on a head or a snake hugging it's way round one of the girl's shoulders. Some of her work is from a project called 'Helmetgirls', where a group of female artists did pieces concerning characters and fantastical mechanical headgear and outfits. A small warning to anyone who finds nude art uncomfortable! - although her artwork is not exactly realistic, you will occassionally find the odd upper half uncovered in her pieces.
I find her style of work inspiring in many ways; the manga aspect to it with big eyes and long flowing hair, yet the detail that goes into her paintings is kind of awe-inspiring. She must spend hours painting all the textures in her pieces. I'm not much of a painter myself (except digitally) but I still appreciate her work and would myself love to do something in a similar style.
Thanks for reading and please check out Camilla D'Errico's work - I hope you find it as inspiring as I do. :D
